Arshamomaque Colony is located on Harshamomaque Pond. This private enclave is comprised of adorable craftsman styled cottages.  The community is very popular with vacation home renters in Southold NY.  The breeze off the water is constant.  Arshamomaque Colony has access to a private beach overlooking Long Island Sound for the residents and guests of the colony.

Dr Ruch, a dentist from New Jersey purchased the Woodworth and Woodworth Estate with 18 acres of land in 1919.  As guests and friends continued to stay with Dr Ruch over the years, he started to parcel of his estate for his friends to build a "colony" of vacation homes for themselves in the 1930's.  This created Ruch Lane running along Harshamomaque Pond.

How did Arshamomaque and varients become the name for this region?  Hashamomuk neck was noted for its running springs of water, which made the neck very desireable to the early settlers who arrived in 1637 from North Carolina.  Hence the name is derived from h'ashim, "a spring of water for drinking purposes"; Massachusetts, ashim, "fountain"; -om "verb of motion"; -muck, "where the springs flow." Sourced from Indian Place Names on Long Island.
